So, you've read this far -- Great!

Do you want those Linux Applications? Here's a list that I found today. As simple as this -- click HERE .

Best, Ever -- I have 10,000 mails stored @ G-Mail. I have had my system(s) trashed so many. many times. Linux lead my to other things. Want to think about really, really, being secure?

Grab a Linux distro -- they come in a lot of flavors -- we use that  term -- and give the LiveCD a try (not). Better yet, get the 5 CD, or DVD and install it..  I''ll leave this all up to you! Google for Linux distros. You'll probably find DistroWatch. Check out what is being most downloaded on the right hand side. I think that you will see that UBUNTU is still on top.

All of this is free, and supported by Novell, IBM , Sun Microsystems, and as of late, by Microsoft (M$). M$ is a term that is well known if you have paid enough for it, or trying to get technical support. Or, tried to do something for yourself, business, then hit your head against the wall. Duh...

I'd insert a Simpsons thing here, but you get the idea. Better yet go visit the Simpsons site. That's always good for a laugh.

All of this is called OpenSource. That defination is sort of funky, but basically, you can alter all the code of any application that you use, change it, and then feed it back to the OpenSource Community. OpenSource includes Operating Systems, full application suites like OpenOffice (see below) and my web site development software -- Joomla. Others are the various Desktops that are out there KDE, GNOME, Enlightenment . Not to confuse you, but the standard Linux distro comes with KDE or GNOME.

The best applications --

Open Office -- want to save, create a document format? Want to create a .pdf without Adobe Acrobat?. It is all there. There is also a new OpenOfficePremium version out there. Have I said that it is all free? Funny about Linux (OpenSource) isn't it? Oh, the things that we can do. But, you might have to do some work!

Evolution -- spell check in as many languages as you want. That's the standared Linux E-mail client. I love my Spanish corrections. And, German or my pathetic French.

K3B -- best DC/ DVD burnig softwareout there. Have I mentioned that it is free?

KsnapShot -- take a screenshot of what your Desktop looks like. Share it with friends.

We can also do GoogleEarth, Picasa, and GMail (2Gb of free storage).

And, we have Firefox, but I have Swiftfox, compiled for my AMD Turion 2.2GHz Notebook because I can do things like that. It makes things that much faster. AMD is sort of beating up INTEL right now. Can we spell alternative computing? Ah, I run everything, but not Microsoft. It makes be a better man!. LOL But, every once in the while I have hit the wall or my head against the wall -- whatever came forst. Then I've Googled for a Forum to address my issue and got the support that I needed. A bunch of really cool people out there in the OpenSource Universe. I think I may copyright that one. Well, just saying it here is good enough.

If you want to have it all with UBUNTU follow this Guide

Have I talked about Web Site Design? Content Management Systems? Duh, Joomla.  Join the Forum, cruise the sites that have been created using this great application. Oh, by the way Joomla is part of Internet2. Why, because unlike static HTML Web Sites you can now participate in things like polls, learn something, and then react. I've none on my site right now. But, you can add comments. I'll change my site later, but for the look that I have it all hangs so well together! In the end it will all be about speed, communication, sharing and learning. Heck, I was once part of ARPANET as a University User. Think post Sputnik here.

Have I said we don't have virus problems with Linux? Worms, Virii, Trojans, AdWare, SpyWare, Key Stroke Loggers, back-door issues? Go for it!

Finally, if you really, really can't think of giving up the last of your M$ applications e.g. M$ Office -- I recommend the Crossover Products. Run M$ Office without the Windows Operating System. Ever thought that was possible?  Welcome to Linux and OpenSource.

You just want to also take a look @ Google Docs & Spreadsheets .

If you have questions just ask / post in the MAIN MENU @ CONTACT & COMMENTS.

As always -- Have Fun!

Again -- thanks for reading, this is the Adler, which means "Eagle" in German.
